Aron Ra has REPEATEDLY told Ham and his associates the truth and how their Creationist BS is factually incorrect and they have been given ample time to fact check the evidence that Aron Ra gave them. Aron did EXACTLY what Matt is saying should be done...several severals of times .....and since they continue to spew their factually inaccurate Creationist BS..,..he now calls them "liars" Matt, how many times must you give "the benefit of the doubt" to a BS-spewer, correct them and provide evidence, before you can say "this person is just WILLFULLY spewing BS and is being dishonest, INTENTIONALLY ?

I was raised Roman Catholic, which evangelicals don't consider Christian as I understand it. My family also was never super-religious. We went to church. We prayed before meals. I was raised believing in God, Jesus, the Bible, the Pope, the Saints -- all of it. And I did believe. Because when you're a child, you believe the adults in your life. They told me God et al was real, so it was. I don't think I ever had a moment where I had some self-pitying "I'm a sinner" moment, but we can go toe to toe with anyone on generalized guilt and shame. :) I was a real Roman Catholic. Until I got old enough that I started listening to and understanding the sermons and bible. It clicked over in my mind that something about this didn't make sense. I remember the moment, though not my exact age that it occurred to me. It was a sermon about the infallibility doctrine around the Pope. It occurred to me how we had no proof or evidence that he was REALLY talking to God, and he had alot to gain by claiming it, whether he did or didn't. I didn't stop believing in God, but from then on I became deeply suspicious of the church's interpretations on behalf of God. And as I got older, I had more 'revelations' where I came to spot the silliness inherent in all of the stuff that was being taught. I was polite about it. I went to church as my parents wanted. Attended religious classes. I regarded them as silly, but I did them. When I was on my own, I stopped going to church, but I still considered myself as a believer for many years. I just didn't think an all-powerful God was grading me on attendance. God was real, but the Church I viewed as a bunch of human constructs around that reality. Eventually, I realized that my belief in God was just presumption. I believed because my parents believed. If I'd been born in the middle east, I'd have been muslim. If I'd been born in India, I'd be Hindu. And so on. I searched for any quantitative reason to believe. As a human, we are always reluctant to change our mind, and I didn't want God to not be real...but I couldn't find any actual, real, solid reason to believe that he wasn't as made up as Zeus or Thor. So I became atheist. I've never heard this called 'deconstruction'. I don't know that I like that term. So was I ever a 'real Christian'? I doubt this group would say I was, but I definitely thought of myself as being so. But I didn't let that identity label stop me from asking questions the way this trio seems to have done. That said, I'm very much not a fan of when 'my team' engages in hyperbole like 'Deconstruction Girl' with the child sacrifice thing. There's so many real moral problems with Christianity. Why would you engage in an attack like that which is so plainly a strawman?

You mentioned the jewish apocalyptic tradition, but my understanding is that early Christianity spread as a mystery religion, common at that time, and that in those religions, lead characters that were in some way both alive and dead were not uncommon.

I have serious reservations about people who tell others what they believe or don't believe. About anything. I was a christian at one time. I am not now. They cannot tell me that I was not a christian, because I know differently. And I don't presume to know better whether someone else was or wasn't a christian.

Great interview! I’d like to see more opportunities for critical thinking theists to engage on this channel. What to do with one’s life …what to value…what ethics do we cherish …these questions are existential and it is here that a faith tradition can engage and maybe even contribute something beneficial. Insisting unreasonably that one’s ancient miracle stories are historically accurate accounts is nonsense and sometimes even harmful. Living as well as one may with respect for ancient wisdom and commitment to a community of faith remains the best that theism has to offer … why most can’t see that is unfortunate. Letting faith be faith is circular reasoning and circular reasoning can’t be beat. It’s irrational and doesn’t need to be…to be.😮

"Supernaturalistic presuppositions." Like science, history is generally limited by informal agreement among historians to natural cause and effect. Bu that does not mean someone with supernatural presuppositions cannot do history.. That would mean that no Christian or Muslim or Jew could be a historian. (Bart is limiting the term "historian" to those who do history within those limitations.) I think of several whom Bart knows: N.T. Wright, Richard Bauckham, Paul Barnett, F.F. Bruce, Bruce Metzgar, et al. These guys do not quote the Bible in support of their suppositions, but they certainly have them. One does not need to be an agnostic to be a legitimate historian.

(Shh - don't mention this to Greg but Hell isn't actually a Biblical concept - it was derived from Classical literature and the religious practices of the late Roman Empire. I mean, even Dante has his semi-comedic Hell kitted out with Classical Myth luminaries and ne'er-do-wells. So 1 Corinthians 15 is hearsay. It would not even be admitted for consideration in a court of law. The only data which is not hearsay is Paul, who never knew Jesus irl, and gives no details about his so-called vision of Jesus. So there's no real evidence for the resurrection. Just stories and hearsay. This is why the resurrection is not accepted as historical by real historians.

always amazed that depictions of a 1st century jewish man look like matinee idols....? no one knows how jesus looked( if he existed at all ) but for sure unlikely to have had a sharp european nose, blue eyes , long wavy hair and be white .. the beard came later I believe ( 4th century ) but who knows ( or in my case, cares? )
